Many Battle Pirates players ask me how to build good base layout. I admit it was not easy for me. Even if you know what you want to do it is hard to put all those tiles on right place and to avoid those "narrow channel" stuff and to create turrets or buildings hardly sniped from outside.
(It should be much easier now when new Battle Pirates base planner is created.)

There is no best base layout, because every base can be leveled - it only depends how many ships and coins attacker is willing to pay for it... All you can do is trying to make your base as strong as you can with what you got, so the attacker have higher repair bill possible. Most of smart ones will skip difficult base and go for easier. And with the time and with upgrades - your Battle
Pirates base will be stronger and stronger...
If you have outpost level 4 and outpost level 3 go to the bottom of the page.

Now that there is plenty of resources you don't need to keep WHs safe. Also, if you don't have HALO your only help is having 6 or more Victory Mortars with Slide Loader special (as high level as possible). Try to research and build Victory Mortar 4 / Slide Loader 3 (VM4/SL3) ASAP.
In this layout Ships can't be sniped. Ship 1 should have assault (D73) or shockwave (D71) mortars if possible. If not, go with Peacemaker mortar. You can add few antimortars on ship 1. Ship1 mortars should help all those VMs to break attacker's antimortar defense...
Ships 2 and 3 should be with specialized resistance (one of them with massive explosive resistance, and other with evade/penetrative resistance). Assault rockets and siege cannons can be useful on ships 2 and 3. Consider anti-sub stuff on ship 2 if Spectres are killing your fleets in prep.
Ship 4 can be with drone module or with mortars or missiles... Ship 5 is optional and will likely be killed in preparation, but it can make attacked lose time and take mortar damage during prep...
Your ships should not move so they stay out of prep range - set patrol radius to 0.

To make things more easy for those who wish to redesign their base, I created this grid model.
Here is how it looks inside...
And here it is in new base planner

Some Battle Pirates tips and tricks...
- Strong ships on good locations are very important part of base defense
- Make base with canal and as many turns as you can.
- Put some Victory Mortars with Slide Loaders grouped together to cover the entrance
- Make your base defence hard to destroy - researching Depleted Uranium 4 and upgrading walls and turrets to the highest possible level should be your top priority
- Near Victory Mortars add defending ship with mortars to help them. This ship(s) should have Assault Mortar D73 or Shockwave Mortar D71 if possible. (SHIP2 in my grid)
- Pull turrets inside the base as much as you can, so they can't be easily destroyed in preparation
- Put long range missile ship(s) to defend you from preparation so it doesn't go easy (SHIP3).
- Try to have your defending ships protected under the range of flak gun and bombard rockets
- Rim jobs are for losers, but try to hide your dock from helpless noobs who try to snipe it
- Do not underestimate importance of bombard rockets and put at least one flak gun in the middle
- It is Cerberus Rockets (Cerbs) which kills the most, and try to have them, but they are real thing when upgraded to level 4.
- You need friends who can help you when you type /base. I have Saggy-Ballz, DLT, Humanist, one-eyed-willie, Mids, RoseRed, Bismarck, Batina, Mladen-Grom, TheFluffer, Thomas, Jack Sparrow, ButtHead, Ahmad, droopy with his gunboat, and many many more from sector 473 :)
- This is just a war game with repair button - never take it personal
- Try to be fair player: try not to destroy people's labs or dock if you can spare them, do not steal salvs, do not kill miner fleets of people who don't attack you, help friends in sector and weaker players, eat complete salv so it can respawn etc...
